General Law Practice of Stuart J. Hollander, Attorney Author of "Saving the Family Cottage, A Guide to Succession Planning for Your Cottage, Cabin, Camp or Vacation Home" acquired.
When I walked into the law offices of the late Stu Hollander in Suttons Bay, "The Home of Cottage Law" I knew immediately it was where I was supposed to be. It felt right, and I knew instantly the importance of continuing and honoring the work that Stuart had always done for the families and the community of Suttons Bay and Leelanau County.
Over the course of many months while working closely with Rose Hollander and Karen Schaub we contacted clients of Stuart Hollander's general law practice. I had the pleasure of talking to and meeting with many during that transition in 2007. One thing is certain, Stuart Hollander was a very loved, and respected, member of the entire Leelanau Peninsula community. It is an honor, and a privilege, to carry Stuart Hollander's legacy forward through our law practice in downtown Suttons Bay, "The Home of Cottage Law".

STUART J. HOLLANDER LAW PRACTICE, SUTTONS BAY
"Dan Penning purchased my late husband's, Stuart Hollander, law practice in Suttons Bay, Michigan in late 2007. I had worked as a legal assistant for my husband, and am so very pleased that a person with Dan's integrity, intelligence, and kindness is here. Dan comes to the Suttons Bay outpost regularly, and has done work for both former clients of Hollander's and new clients who have found their way to him by reputation. This is a small community, and the word is out that Dan is responsive and effective in his legal work. He has also joined a number of service organizations, contributing to the community he has become a part of. I highly recommend using Dan and his firm."
JIM AND DIANE GRUBER, LAKE ANN, MICHIGAN
"We retained the legal services of Dan Penning for resolving the uncapping of our property taxes when we filed for a Michigan Homestead Exemption. The local accessor made a legal ownership definition classification error which uncapped our property and considerably raised our property taxes. We were given a 27 day window to pay the inflated tax bill or interest would begin accruing. That's when we contacted Dan to help us resolve our problem. We were not used to dealing with attorneys so it was important to us to work with a local attorney who had a vested interest in the community and who knew the players. Dan was pleasant from the start and did what he said he was going to do and there were no surprises. Dan, and his staff, kept us updated each step of the way. We appreciate how Dan worked with the local accessor and the Michigan Tax Tribunal to correct our property classification and to get our property recapped. The Tribunal's ruling will save us thousands of dollars in property taxes in the future. We also appreciate that even though our legal matter has been resolved, Dan and his office have continued to stay in touch with us. We would highly recommend Dan Penning to our family and friends for any of their legal matters and plan to use Dan's legal services again in the future."
